FAQ

In my experience, it is best to start with 1tbsp / 1 liter of water. Test how the paint floats in a small bath, and adjust the ratio as needed. There is comprehensive guide for your convenience.

The dipping tank is filled with what is called “marbling size”, I use a solution of water and carrageenan. The viscous liquid allows for the paint to float on the surface and keeps it from sinking.

I use high flow acrylics for most of my paper and fabric marbling projects.

For certain bespoke commissions I grind and mix my own pigments. I maintain a list of helpful books about marbling I found helpful while learning, check them out!

Of course! Contact me directly with special requests, I absolutely love special projects. Whether you have an outlandish idea or simply want custom marbled fabric by the yard, I can do it all. Follow this link to order a custom marbled scarf.

I don’t teach online marbling workshops because I don’t believe it would provide good value to paying students. But, you can get plenty of information from the livestream library on The Soft Asylum YouTube channel. I also answer relevant questions in chat while live on YouTube or Instagram. For hands-on training check out my marbling workshops and events section.

I plan several workshops every year, check out my events page for upcoming classes.
