Hand-Marbled Silk Scarf Bouquet Pattern in Brown, Red, and Rust
This is an original hand-marbled silk scarf (60″x15″) created by me. The fabric material is 100% silk with an 8mm hem. The length when worn draped around the neck hits at the hip-line. The scarf can be tied into a chunky knot at the bust or have the ends tied together to achieve the infinity look. This scarf also looks super stylish as a head-wrap. At such a luxurious length the style possibilities are endless!
The design on the scarf is a bouquet pattern that is inspired by the end papers found in antique books. I hand-marble the design by floating paints on a viscous gel. I use a variety of tools and combs that I drag through the paint in different directions and combinations to manipulate the repeating motifs. Lastly, I dip the silk into the paint to absorb the design. The color palette I chose for this piece consists primarily of browns, beige, red, burgundy, black, and white.
My love for marbling comes from the process of experimentation. It is a difficult medium to control and is always full of surprises. No two prints are alike! Each piece is truly one a of a kind “monotype” print. Marbling is an aqueous form of printmaking. I love trying out different media to marble onto such as paper, different fabrics, canvas, and even wood! The marbled silk scarf is the ultimate form of wearable art and makes a wonderful gift!
